The development of the Oculus virtual reality platform with the Rift and Gear VR mobile display will mean a lot more racing games in the future are likely to make use of the technology.
One of the first off the grid is Motorsport Revolution, developed by Ghost Machine. It’s an arcade-style racer available now on the Oculus Share Motorsport Revolution page.
It’s a single player game with 20 fictional cars, adaptive AI and controls via the keyboard, Microsoft 360 controller or the G25 and G27 wheels. The track listing at the moment is:
- Millers’ Glen Road Corse
- Monterey Street Course
- California Speedway (long and short tracks)
- Belgium International Course
- Brazil Raceway
- Canada Street Coruse
- Big Country Criterion
- Italian Raceway
- Brussels (long and short tracks)
- Test Track Raceway
The real interest is in the VR experience, with a holographic menu display and more. Although you can play the game on a normal machine, the video and details probably mean there are potentially better choices for your time out there – but if you have a DK2 Oculus Rift Development headset it’s worth checking out.
