DiRT Rally will now support PlayStation VR, either via DLC for existing owners of the game, or in a new boxed retail version.
The PlayStation VR support for DiRT Rally will include every car, route and discipline, including the hill climb and rallycross events.
But possibly the most interesting part of the addition will be the ability for a second player to join in. Using the Dualshock controller, you can now have a real life co-driver. They’ll use the social screen to understand when to prompt you, and send calls via the buttons and touchpad.
Of course, if you’ve ever heard a conversation between a normal driver and navigator in the days before your sat-nav took all the blame, you’ll be prepared for the occasional argument. But at least a mistake will only result in a virtual mishap.
Despite the potential for disagreements over co-driver calls, it does sound interesting. And it’d be a good way to get non-drivers involved in the action.
DiRT Rally with PlayStation VR support will be released in the next few weeks from Codemasters. There’s no mention yet of any price for the DLC, or whether the new retail version will cost more. Or whether it will be the standard edition, or the DiRT Rally Legend edition, which includes a feature length documentary on Colin McRae, and a fully loaded Mini pack, including a completely upgraded Mini Cooper S with an exclusive livery and unique engineer.
