We might take racing seriously at OnlineRaceDriver, but sometimes you need something a bit more fun and accessible to relax with, or to encourage kids and non-gamers into online racing. Think Micro Machines or Mario Kart (The original Mario Kart game for the SNES had a pretty good handling model)
And TNT Racers looks like a possible contender for that role. It’s out in August on Xbox Live, the Playstation Network for the PS3 and PSP, and also on the Nintendo Wii.
You get up to 4 players racing on 18 tracks with single races, tournaments and ranked matches online. And the gameplay is a top-down style fun racer with collectable power-ups giving you weapons to attack the other racers and throw them off the track.
Which isn’t particularly different – but one fun aspect is that all of those who get thrown off the track get the opportunity to come back as ‘Shadow Racer’s to get revenge. Which means the first player to fall off the course isn’t left sulking for the next five minutes, and hopefully keeps them playing a lot longer.
There’s platform-specific leaderboards, and you’ll be able to unlock new cars, tracks and achievements. We’ve got a handy TNT Racers trailer already on the site.
